About Chris Saves Energy
I’m Chris, and a while back something a bit odd happened. I checked my electricity and instead of owing money, the grid owed me.
The moment that started all this
I’m on the Agile Octopus tariff, which means my electricity price changes every 30 minutes based on what is happening on the UK grid. On windy days, when there is more power than demand, the price can go negative. I get paid to use electricity.
I ran the washing machine, the dishwasher, and made a pot of tea, and it cost me nothing. Better than nothing, in fact.
Why I started writing about energy
That moment got me properly interested. Not in a dull, spreadsheet-obsessed way, but in a “hang on, why doesn’t everyone know about this?” kind of way.
So that is what this blog is. I write about the stuff that actually makes a difference to your energy bills. Smart tariffs, switching suppliers, heat pumps, solar panels, off-peak shifting, draught-proofing. Some of it costs nothing. Some of it is a bigger investment. All of it is stuff I have looked into properly and written about honestly.
Who I am
I am based in County Durham in the North East of England. I am not a financial advisor or an energy engineer. I am just someone who got curious, started digging, and found that the UK energy market rewards people who pay attention.
Want to try Agile Octopus?
It is the best tariff I have ever been on. If you use my referral link, we both get £50 credit. No catch, no commitment beyond a standard switch.
What this blog covers
Energy bills in the UK have been punishing for years. This blog is my small attempt to help people push back.
